About Neuronal Heterotopia

Neuronal heterotopia disorders are rare conditions that arise during brain development when neurons do not migrate to their intended location in the cerebral cortex. Instead, clusters of neurons remain in abnormal areas of the brain.

These disorders fall under the umbrella of Grey Matter Heterotopia (GMH) and can be categorized in 2 subgroups:

•            Periventricular Nodular Heterotopia (PVNH)

•            Subcortical Band Heterotopia (SBH)
